Atkins Diet - What Is It and Why Did It Fail or Did It

Why did the Atkins Diet Fail, or did it? People are actively seeking help to find a proper diet plan for losing weight. Several great diet plans can help anyone to lose weight effectively. However, many of them also failed. In this article, we will talk about the Atkins Diet and why it failed.

What is the Atkins Diet?

This Diet is a low-carb diet where the ‘induction phase’ allows you to immediately cut all the carbs from your diet. Usually, this diet’s followers can only take 20g of carbs in a day with fewer than 100 calories. However, health experts recommend getting at least 60 to 65 percent of calories from carbs.

Reasons why the Atkins Diet fail?

As we have already explained, the Atkins Diet is a low-carb diet. Consequently, it is less effective and less healthy. Numerous side effects explain the reason for the diet’s failure.

These includes:

●     Provide short-term results

Initially, this low-carb diet helps to lose weight fast and feels motivating. In reality, however, this weight loss is only short-term, and you will eventually gain back more weight. Why? Because the  Atkins Diet weight loss plan consists of low calories.

It also has a strong diuretic effect. Consequently, it is resulting in water weight loss. However, the moment you stop your low-carb diet, your weight will return. This makes the Atkins Diet not so useful for long-term weight loss.

●     Causes hormonal changes

Another most significant issue related to the Akins Diet is the substantial changes in hormone levels. The use of a low-carb diet can result in lowering the level of serotonin. And a low level of serotonin can result in increased appetite. Besides, it can also affect thyroid hormones leading to T4 into T3.

On top of that, it can also increase the level of cortisol. A high level of cortisol can make it challenging to lose fat.

●     Missing out important components

When you rely on the Atkins Diet weight loss plan, you are cutting too much from your diet and missing out on essential nutrients, most of which are suitable for your health. These include whole grains, vegetables and fruits, low-fat dairy, vitamins, minerals, and fibers.

All this can cause an imbalance in your body. Because of your body’s healthy functioning, it needs all the essential nutrients in the right amount. Every nutrient has its role, like the role of bread in weight management.

●     It affects a person’s health.

Many people ask if the Atkins Diet is good for diabetes. Usually, obesity can result in insulin resistance. Therefore, when you use the Atkins Diet by reducing carbohydrates, it can provide certain immediate health benefits like low blood pressure and low insulin level.

It can, however, cause some havoc in the body. To fulfill its energy needs, the body breaks down lean muscle mass, resulting in slow metabolism. It can also have severe effects on heart health and increase the risk of heart diseases. It can also cause kidney stones.

What is an alternative diet to the Atkins Diet that causes weight loss and enhances your health?

The Atkins Diet failed due to its low-calorie content and numerous lousy health effects. Therefore, no one is recommended to use the Atkins Diet weight loss plan for long-term weight loss. A great diet to use for fat loss is the Keto diet because it uses fat for energy through ketosis.

Why is the Keto diet so effective? Because fat is a more stable form of energy when used correctly. However, the body cannot completely rely on one macronutrient. The brain needs at least 200 calories (50 grams of carbohydrate) to function correctly.  Also, only protein can build muscles and cells. The best diets reduce calories but don’t compromise your health.
